Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean says she’s relieved that Wanaka Primary School students no longer have to stand on buses.
“When it comes to children’s safety there can be no compromise and I think it’s only appropriate that the Ministry of Education has moved on this issue.
“I have dealt with both Education Minister Chris Hipkins and Associate Education Minister Jenny Salesa on this issue and I am pleased that we finally have a breakthrough for the Wanaka community.
“The Ministry has recently added extra capacity to the Luggate bus run, but my concern has been that as Wanaka School’s roll continues to grow the problem of overcrowding on school buses will just keep reoccurring.
“Wanaka School board chair Andrew Hoard also deserves congratulations on raising the profile of this issue and ensuring the safety, not only of Wanaka School students, but of others around the country.
“I have met with him to discuss this issue, with his passion and determination to find a solution allowing him to achieve success.”
