Welcomes investment in Alexandra airport

Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean said she welcomed investment in Alexandra’s airport saying it was an important move to future-proof the facility.

“I’m very pleased to see that this investment in the Alexandra airport is going ahead because it opens up potential tourism opportunities in the future.

“We all know that both Queenstown and Wanaka airport’s continue to suffer from congestion problems and I’d like to think that Alexandra’s airport could provide an alternative for visitors in the future.

“As tourism continues to grow in our region, these are exciting times for local communities and the best way for Alexandra to cash-in on this growth is to ensure that its infrastructure makes the grade.

“Clearly any extra visitors to the area will have positive economic benefits for the entire community and with the airport an important gateway to the Alexandra area, I think any investment is very wise.

“The Central Otago District Council has made the right decision to invest $429,000 in infrastructure upgrades, with more funding allocated to reseal the runway next year.”
