Jacqui Dean confirmed as National's Waitaki electorate candidate

Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean has been confirmed as the National party’s Waitaki electorate candidate for the 2017 general election.

National Party general manager Greg Hamilton said he congratulated Mrs Dean and said the board and the team at the National Party Service Centre looked forward to working with her through the year and toward the election.

Mrs Dean she said she was honoured by her selection and said she looked forward to continuing to represent the people of the Waitaki electorate with enthusiasm and pride.

“After four terms, my passion and determination to represent the people of this region has only grown and I believe my experience and knowledge, after more than a decade in parliament, only enhances my ability to represent the electorate.

“I am passionate about promoting the needs of smaller communities in the region and also want to continue my work around health, tourism, and rural issues.”

As a senior Government MP Mrs Dean supports Prime Minister John Key in her role as Parliamentary Private Secretary for Tourism and works with Local Government Minister Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga, as Parliamentary Private Secretary for Local Government.

Mrs Dean is also the chair of the Justice and Electoral Select Committee, a member of the Health Select Committee, Commonwealth Parliamentary Association delegate of the 51st Parliament and vice-president for Parliamentarians for Global Action.
