Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean said she was pleased to see police taking a realistic view when it came to the Omakau Trots’ liquor licence application.

“I have been concerned about the handling of this issue for some time now and have been working to find a way forward for this popular and long-standing event.

“I recently took the matter to Police Minister Judith Collins and it is heartening for the Omakau community and the local trotting club that a realistic agreement has now been reached.

“I also talked with club president Graham Sinnamon and I share his and CODC mayor Tony Lepper’s views that the Omakau Trots' are a community event, which have been well run over their 52 year history.

“I also regret that Mr Sinnamon and his committee were put through the wringer, but now share their relief that common sense has prevailed and a resolution which is agreeable to all parties has finally been reached.”
