Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean said it was great to see guest nights in Wanaka up again for June, as the town continued to enjoy a fantastic year of tourism growth.

“Wanaka recorded 33771 guest nights in June, up by a whopping 9.7 percent, or 2984 on June 2015.

“This is an excellent increase and comes hot on the heels of guest night increases in March (9.30%), April (2.4%) and May (4%) of 2016.

“Total guest nights nationally for June 2016 were up 11.9 percent from June 2015, which makes Wanaka’s 9.7 percent increase look very strong.

“I continue to be delighted at the promising tourism growth we are seeing in Wanaka. There's a real vibrancy and a feeling of positivity in the town.

“These increases not only bode well for accommodation providers, but also have a flow on to tourism operators, retailers and restaurant owners - and in turn provide positive employment opportunities within these sectors.”
