Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean said it was great to see that the iconic giant fruit sculpture in Cromwell had had a makeover.

“The colours are now bright and vibrant, after the fruit recently received its first freshen up in 12 years.

“These fruit are such a recognizable part of the Central Otago landscape and provide a great photo opportunity for visitors from around the country and overseas.

“In terms of tourism, it’s great for Cromwell to have this point of difference which sets it aside.

“The fruit are also an iconic part of the Cromwell community, we all see them as we drive around the area, and I think it’s good to have them looking fresh.

“And let’s not forget they are also truly representative of the summer fruit industry which continues to play such an important role in the area.”
