MP welcomes increased winter tourism spend

Tuesday, August 2, 2016

I welcome the news Otago is at the top of the country's tourist preferred venues.

Spending by domestic and international visitors has this winter already seen an 11 per cent increase on the region's income for the same time last year. This is tangible proof our region can cater for most incoming visitors recreational and sporting requirements.

Other regions to have increased their incomes include Auckland, Waikato, the Bay of Plenty and Nelson.

“As Parliamentary Private Secretary for Tourism I welcome the influx of visitors to all parts of our country. It's good to see the whole country benefit."

These results are due to hard work and innovation from our tourism sectors supported by towns and cities across the country.

The Government is focused on encouraging a greater dispersal of visitors across New Zealand to make sure all regions benefit from that tourism spend. Already it looks as if it’s paying off. Well done.
