Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean said Wanaka’s potential as a national and  international conference venue was largely untapped, with the area having huge potential for the future.

“I believe that Wanaka has the potential to become a prime conference venue in New Zealand.

“It certainly has the wow-factor. Wanaka is a wonderful setting that will take delegates’ breath away, while providing all of the necessary elements for a great conference.”

Mrs Dean’s comments come after the successful National party conference was held recently (14-15 May), at The Venue Function and Events Centre, when 180 delegates and up to 220 people attended.

“It was a fabulous weekend, which was enhanced by a wonderful facility, excellent service, and great access to technology.

“I was very proud to host the Prime Minister John Key, MP’s and visitors from around the country to Wanaka, with a conference that ticked all the boxes and left many guests saying that they would be back for more.

“The natural beauty of the area, and access to some world-class adventure activities, complemented by great restaurants, superb art galleries and a wide range of shopping experiences, means that Wanaka has it all.

“From the Lake Wanaka Centre, to the Edgewater Hotel, Mercure Oakridge Resort and the new Peak Function Centre, the options for conferences from 20 up to 250 people are superb.

“And because the town is only 50 minutes from the Queenstown Airport, it’s as accessible as many other conference venue options around New Zealand.”
