Parliamentary Private Secretary for Tourism and Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean said Government investment in adventure tourism in the Otago region would promote innovation in the sector and continue to stimulate growth.

“Government funding of $500,000, announced today by Prime Minister John Key as part of the Tourism Growth Partnership, will allow a Queenstown initiative to take bungy jumping to a new level with the Nevis Thriller.

“We need this kind of innovation and investment within the tourism industry to keep international visitors wanting to come here and experience adventure tourism at its best.

“Record numbers of visitors are already coming to our region at the moment, but we need to be innovative and inventive to ensure that our position is maintained.

“I welcome this investment and am delighted that the Government is ready to support local initiatives like this in our region, as a way of enhancing tourism growth for everyone’s benefit.

“I think the Nevis Thriller will be a wonderful addition to Central Otago’s adventure tourism menu.”
