Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean said the Wanaka Show was an excellent example of how successful, locally run events can have a positive impact on economic growth in the regions.

“The Wanaka Show is a wonderful example of a community-run event, with great sponsors and corporate partnerships, which has achieved excellent economic benefits for the town.

“I look forward to being part of the show every year and was this year delighted to enjoy the atmosphere and see the huge number of visitors it brings into the town.

“The Upper Clutha A&P committee has shown foresight and vision in ensuring the show continues to develop and grow over time, while the many local community groups, businesses and volunteers have also played their part in its on-going success.

“The show has become a unique event which attracts, locals, tourists and visitors from around the South Island every year, with over 35,000 visitors and a whopping 450 trade stalls making it a one of the biggest and best A&P shows in the country.

“A 2015 economic impact report showed that in excess of $10 million went back into the local economy directly from the show. This is a fantastic result which again reinforces the show’s significance to the area and ensures its place on Wanaka’s annual events calendar."
