Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean said the Beef + Lamb New Zealand Golden Lamb Awards were a fantastic way to showcase the talents of farmers around the region.

“I look forward to attending the Glammies ever year in Wanaka and take particular pride in supporting the farmers from my electorate.

“With over 160 entries this year, 20 finalists will battle it out for the top prizes at this weekend’s Wanaka Show. (11/3)

“It’s always a great event which I believe highlights the quality of the meat that farmers around the region are producing and it allows those within the industry and beyond to acknowledge their talents.

“Farming is crucial to the economic well-being of our country. While we are still a relatively small player on the international stage producing 1 percent of world beef production, 3 percent of diary and 6 percent of world sheep meat, our food trade accounts for around 57 percent of our total exports and bring in over $30 billion per year.

“The Glammies allow us to celebrate farming’s contribution and to acknowledge those who put in the hard yards and get their hands dirty down on the farm.”

Mrs Dean would be at the Wanaka Show all day on Friday.
