Supporting our health board's training programmes

Thursday, March 3, 2016

I'm backing the Southern District Health Board's call for patients and whānau to help with staff training by sharing their own experiences of Board care directly with those involved in patient care.

The board's hospital staff are keen to hear of the experiences and views of patients and their families, whether positive or whether they feel there is room for improvement.  Organisers say the session is a genuine opportunity to influence the future of such care.

Through such process the board hopes to learn enough to assist in its patient service management.

The  joint 'In your Shoes' workshops for patients and staff will be held in March at Alexandra, Wanaka and Oamaru.

I welcome such contact between patients and medical staff as an excellent method for improving patient/staff understanding as well as welcome the boards intention to hold more like meetings in the future.

Session dates and locations are as follows: Alexandra, Thursday 10th March, 11.30am – 1.30pm; Wanaka, Monday, 14 March, 10.30am-12.30pm and  in Oamaru Tuesday, 15 March, 11.00am-1.00pm.

Interested patients and their families can  register for their area  workshop by visiting www.southerndhb.govt.nz, phoning 0800 214 579, or emailing listening@southerndhb.govt.nz.
