Teviot Valley funding should bring results
Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean said wanted to see positive benefits coming from Government funding aimed at stimulating community growth in the Teviot Valley.
“I welcome the establishment of a governance group for the Teviot Valley Community Development Scheme and look forward to seeing the progress that will be made.
“The scheme will receive $80,000 in Government funding over the next three years to help get community-driven projects off the ground.
“It’s about empowering communities so they could be self-reliant and resilient into the future.
“The first initiative for the governance group is encouraging seasonal workers to stay longer in the area and with the significance of the summer and pip fruit industries this makes perfect sense.
“Community Development Scheme funding supports communities to work together in new ways, to be innovative and to determine their own development priorities.
“After all, who better to determine the area’s needs that local people.
“I think it’s exciting that the people of the Teviot Valley have been given this opportunity and I hope to see positive benefits coming from this investment.”
