Alexandra teenager Keryn Tubbs is this year's Waitaki Youth MP.

Keryn, one of 121 recently named Youth MPs,  together with 17 Youth Press Gallery members, will next July attend the 2016 Youth Parliament in Wellington.

Keryn was earlier selected from a number of students who had written resumes explaining why they sought selection for the position. Keryn, a year 12 student attending  Dunstan HS, will start her duties from next February.

Among her duties is an expectation she will move among and talk to her peers and the younger  people in her district so she can later bring their  perspectives directly to the heart of our democracy.

Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean said she expected the new Youth MP would have a reasonably busy time ahead, however if she needed assistance the MP's staff as well as herself were on hand to provide it.

"I'm sure Keryn will enjoy her role and the time she will spend in Parliament where she will get to take part in debates, speak to the House and experience other parliamentary duties."
