Visitor driver funding to improve safety
Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean has welcomed a $25 million funding top-up for the Visitor Driver Signature Project (VDSP) saying it would improve safety on Central Otago roads.
"I welcome this extra funding which is focused on saving lives and reducing harm on our roads.
“This funding is very timely as we head into another busy Central Otago summer, with domestic and international visitors flooding to the area over the coming weeks.
“The additional investment is likely to include further installation of rumble strips, improved rest area signage, slow vehicle bays, shoulder widening, and more 'keep left' arrows.
“Announced by Associate Transport Minister Craig Foss, the funding will be split between state highway and local government initiatives, as well as a social marketing programme.”
