Racing clubs around Otago get funding support

Monday, November 30, 2015

Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean said several racing clubs around Otago have received funding to improve safety and development at their courses.

“A total of $618,421 will be invested in 26 projects around the country, including three in Otago, which will receive $85,000.

“The funding comes from the Racing Safety Development Fund which provides $1 million annually to racecourse safety and development across two funding rounds.

“The Otago Racing Club will receive $50,000 for track irrigation, the Forbury Park Trotting Club will get a $19,162 boost for a grandstand upgrade and the Kurow Jockey Club will upgrade toilet facilities with the $16,000 they will receive.

“This fund plays an important role in supporting the safety of the racing industry for animals, staff and the wider public. In many areas these facilities are widely used by the community, and not just on race days.”

The second funding round of the 2015/16 racing year opens for applications on 2 February 2016 and closes on 31 March 2016.
