Confident about Central Otago's wine industry
Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean said Central Otago's wine industry was going from strength to strength and she was excited about the potential for the sector and the region in the future.
“National is focused on both growing and diversifying the economy which is why we’re glad to see exports increasing strongly in the viticulture industry.
“New Zealand wine has established itself as a major commodity after exports increased by 10 per cent in volume and value to a record $1.33 billion in the year to June.
“And what’s exciting if that export values are expected to hit $2 billion by the end of the decade, placing wine firmly among the country's top five traded goods based on current figures.
“This is exciting for the Central Otago region which already has a thriving wine industry and bodes well for the future.
“In the recent New Zealand Winegrowers annual report, more than 80 per cent of NZ Winegrowers' members indicated a positive outlook for their businesses for the year ahead and the industry's confidence had been demonstrated by a lift in vineyard and infrastructure development over the past 12 months.”
