Waitaki MP and Parliamentary Private Secretary for Tourism Jacqui Dean said there was huge potential for tourism growth in the wake of the recent visit by a group of Australian travel agents to Central Otago.

“Four hundred of Australia’s highest performing travel agents spent five days in the country with Central Otago as one of their destinations.

“Two groups enjoyed the region with a site visit to the Highlands Motorsport Park and Go Karting,  a cycle tour on the Otago Rail Trail and  cycle tour and lunch and wine tasting at  Mt Difficulty.

“One of the largest of its kind, this visit provided a great chance to show the agents how fantastic the Central Otago is and I’m confident it will lead to them sell even more trips to the region.

“The visit during September would allow agents to experience off-peak travel options, helping to grow shoulder season travel to Central Otago.”

Great support from regional tourism organisations and local operators, allowed the visit to be successful, Mrs Dean said.

“28,021 international tourists visited the Central Otago Regional Tourism Organisation area in the year to March 2015.”
