Government funding for roading projects positive
Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean said she was delighted work was underway on Clyde's underpass with $177,500 in Government funding helping to make the project happen.
Residents and Clyde School students will be pleased to see the work finally underway after much campaigning.
“The underpass will provide a safer route to the Springvale side of SH8 for Clyde Primary School pupils, residents and Otago Central Rail Trail users.
“I’m delighted to see Government funding coming to Central Otago and supporting local roading projects, without this support the burden on ratepayers would be excessive.
“Nearly $700,000 is also being made available for strengthening the bridge across the Clutha River in Alexandra along with work on two bridges on State Highway 6 between Cromwell and Queenstown.
“In Alexandra, strengthening of the Alexandra Bridge will make it suitable for heavier vehicles like the new 50-tonne trucks.
“Roading funding continues to be huge cost for ratepayers around the country, so it’s fantastic that this money is coming to Central Otago for the benefit of the community.
“All of these projects will improve road safety and support economic growth in the area and for those reasons are hugely important for the people of the area.”
