Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean said she congratulated the entrants at the weekend’s Otago-Southland Dairy Industry Awards.

“This event is a wonderful showcase of the talent which the sector has. It’s also a great example that anyone who is motivated and prepared to work hard can achieve success in the dairy industry.

“The awards are also a good way to promote and encourage excellence in the industry and they provide an insurance that good farmers will continue coming through the ranks into the future.

“Year after year the standard of the entrants seems to get stronger and stronger, from the farm manager award, to the sharemilker/equity farmer of the year award, the talent that the dairy industry has is something to take pride in.”

Mrs Dean said she was impressed to see entrants from across the Otago-Southland region, including Ettrick and Omakau, taking part in Saturday night’s event.

“Increasing knowledge around key areas such as animal husbandry and environmental management, ensure that these dairy farmers of the future will be responsible caretakers of the land.”
