Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean said she was aware of concerns about the amount of lagarosiphon weed in Lake Dunstan.

“I’ve seen the problem first hand and I’ve also had lots of feedback from the community.

“Land Information New Zealand is responsible for weed control in Lake Dunstan and have already undertaken quite a bit of work in the area.

“However, I have also talked to Land Information minister Louise Upston who assured me that weed control at Lake Dunstan was a priority.

“I will be keeping an eye on this issue because I have genuine concerns about the future of the lake and the ability of people to use it.

“As we have seen with Lake Wanaka Lagarosiphon can be very difficult to control.

“However, it’s not just about eradication, with lake users also needing to take responsibility for cleaning boats and fishing equipment to prevent the spread of this horrible weed.”
