New chief executive appointment positive
Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean said she was impressed that the Central Otago District Council had hired its first female chief executive.
“I have long advocated for greater representation of women in senior management positions and it’s wonderful to see this happening in our region.
“The Government has been working hard to achieve better results for women, including ensuring greater economic independence and seeing more women in leadership roles.
“This has been achieved in many ways, including providing suitable women nominees for appointment to state sector boards and committees.
“And positive results are happening, with the latest Household Labour Force Survey (September 2014) showing that employment growth is being led by women.
“Comparing the year to 30 September 2014 with the year before, 83 percent of employment growth can be attributed to women, with 33,000 more women employed now than in September 2013.
“There’s still work to be done, but appointments such as Leanne Mash’s are a step in the right direction, providing an excellent role model for other women in the Central Otago area.”
