Wanaka Still a Winner with Gigatown
Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean said she was proud of Wanaka’s efforts with Gigatown.
“The Wanaka community gave it everything during the year-long social media campaign to bring high speed internet to the town.
“And although Wanaka was not successful in the competition, I believe the town was a winner in other ways.
“The publicity around Wanaka which this event has created is priceless, and along with that the competition has united many people within the town and got them all thinking and talking about how the town can better utilise technology and ultrafast broadband.
“The Government is committed to building world-class fibre infrastructure and taking advantage of the long-term gains it will bring.
“Faster broadband is critical to growing the economy and stimulating innovation in towns like Wanaka.
“Gigatown might be over, but the long term benefits for Wanaka of being a part of this competition are on-going.”
