Dean - To Head Taskforce to Banish Ridiculous Rules
Waitaki MP, and Parliamentary Private Secretary for Local Government, Jacqui Dean has been selected to chair a new national Rules Reduction Taskforce which aims to cut the red tape around property regulations and local rules.
“I’m delighted to have been given this opportunity which will bring about huge advantages for property owners, builders, tradespeople and businesses across the country.
“It’s about getting rid of the stupid rules and regulations that affect people’s lives, adding delays and expense to development projects, both large and small.
“In my many years’ experience with Local Government I have heard the concerns and now I have the chance to work with people up and down the country to ensure that we break down the barriers to economic growth and development and cut the red tape on progress.”
Mrs Dean will work with Auckland Chamber of Commerce chief executive Michael Barnett, who will consult in the Auckland area, while Mrs Dean will cover the rest of the country from Northland to Southland.
“While some regulations are essential, they should not impede development. We want to hear from people who have experienced issues caused by irrelevant or unnecessary regulations, so that we can work towards doing something about changing them.
“There will be a variety of ways to engaging, including making a submission online at www.govt.nz/rulesreduction<http://www.govt.nz/rulesreduction>, along with targeted meetings around the country and visits to building sites by local MPs.”
