Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean says she welcomes newly acquired Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) funding for Oamaru Hospital which will benefit healthcare in Oamaru and across the wider Waitaki.
“A new agreement has been signed with ACC and the Oamaru hospital following lengthy discussions alongside the Southern DHB over the past months.
"The new contract will mean Oamaru Hospital can now invoice ACC for services which were previously delivered by the hospital, but not covered in ACC funding.
“This new contract is tipped to generate over $300,000 in revenue annually, a welcome boost for the under-funded hospital.
“Hospital management has been working to cut costs and improve services for the people of Oamaru and it is wins like this which will continue to have an impact on the level of service received.
"The successful negotiation of this contract shows the work which is going on behind the scenes by management to create a financially sustainable business, while improving medical services for the people of this region."
