Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean says she welcomes funding for pre-feasibility work on the Manuherikia Water Project saying it will boost the project and benefit farmers in the area.
“Crown Irrigation has provided a development grant of $815,000, announced today, for the remaining Manuherikia Water Project pre-feasibility investigations,” Ms Dean says.
“This is an exciting new step which will move the project forward, allowing the current independent irrigation companies in the Manuherikia Valley to amalgamate under a single legal entity, Manuherikia WaterCo.
“It will also mean that further studies around the size and shape of the project can be undertaken.
“This project will be a real game changer for farmers in the Manuherikia Valley and will bring huge economic benefits to them both in the short and the longer term.
“I am delighted that this funding has been agreed. This scheme is seen as an important asset for the area, which could future-proof water storage options in Central Otago.”
