Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean says she will relish her responsibilities as Opposition spokesperson for Tourism and Small Business.
National Party Leader Bill English yesterday (Thursday 2 November ) unveiled his Opposition line-up.
Ms Dean says Tourism and Small Business are a perfect fit with her role as MP for Waitaki.
“Tourism is vital to this region. It's a major contributor to the local economy - particularly that of the Central Otago District, and is an industry that has been flourishing in recent years.
“Under National, a lot of work was done to raise the profile of this part of the country and to attract high-value visitors. Encouraging travel in the shoulder and off-season periods was also a priority and I will push this Government hard to ensure that this focus remains.
“As the former Minister for Small Business, I have a vested interest in this portfolio. Towns in this electorate rely heavily on small business.
“Small businesses make up 97% of all enterprises in New Zealand and make a significant contribution to our economy and society. I will hold the Government to account to ensure small business owners can continue to operate with confidence.
“I am looking forward to working hard across these areas and continuing to advocate strongly in the best interests of the Waitaki electorate in Parliament.”
