Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean said a boost in the Wanaka communications network over the summer was essential and she congratulated telecommunications companies for stepping up their game.
“Cell phone speed and disruption have caused concern in Wanaka in recent years, as thousands of visitors and holiday-makers put pressure on the local networks.
“I think it’s great that both Spark and Vodafone have stepped up adding infrastructure to the existing mobile network, particularly across this busy time.
“Not only is poor, or slow device coverage an inconvenience, but it can also be dangerous, if people need their calls to get through.
“I also don’t think it’s a good look for a growing tourist town like Wanaka to be lumbered with a network that doesn’t make the grade during peak times.
“Both of these companies should be commended for planning ahead and ensuring that their service can support the many visitors who will be enjoying Wanaka this summer.”
